Family Feud Over Food and Neglect Ends in Abuja Court-Ordered Divorce

ABUJA – A Grade 1 Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, has dissolved the marriage of Amina Abubakar and Jamila Sani after three turbulent years of disputes over lack of love and failure to provide basic family needs.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the court, presided over by Judge Aliyu Kagarko, ordered the dissolution on the grounds that the relationship had “broken down irretrievably.”
The judge further directed Amina to observe the mandatory three-month waiting period, or Iddah, before remarrying, in accordance with lslamic law.
The petitioner, Amina, testified that her husband failed to meet basic family needs, such as food, clothing, and healthcare, resulting in frequent quarrels.
She also alleged physical abuse, stating, “My husband no longer loves me.”
Sani, however, did not contest the allegations and instead supported Amina’s divorce petition. “I agree that our marriage has broken down and I see no reason to continue,” he said.
The court’s decision came after both parties confirmed their mutual desire to end the union.
Their marriage, which began under Islamic law in 2022, resulted in one child.
