A scandal of unprecedented proportions has emerged in Equatorial Guinea, where hundreds of explicit videos featuring Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the director of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), have circulated widely on social media.
The tapes depict Engonga, a married man, in compromising situations with various partners, including the wives of prominent officials, filmed in his office at the finance ministry.
In response to the controversy, Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue announced on Monday via X (formerly Twitter) that the government would suspend all civil servants found to have engaged in sexual relations within ministry offices.
He condemned these actions as serious violations of the code of conduct and public ethics law.
This incident is not the first involving leaked sex tapes among civil servants, but the high-profile nature of those implicated has brought the issue into the national spotlight.
Obiang stated he had instructed the telecommunications ministry and service providers to take immediate action to curb the distribution of these videos, declaring, “As the government, we cannot continue to see families destroyed.”
Engonga, known as “Bello” for his good looks, is the son of the current Chairman of the Commission of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community and is related to the country’s long-serving president.
The scandal erupted while he was in custody at Malabo’s notorious Black Beach prison, facing charges of embezzlement.
Equatorial Guinea’s chief prosecutor, Anatolio Nzang Nguema, warned that if medical examinations reveal Engonga has a sexually transmitted disease, he could face prosecution for public health offenses.
Meanwhile, internet traffic has been severely disrupted as authorities attempt to contain the spread of the scandal, with speculation that more explicit content may soon surface.
