Ex-boyfriend who set Ugandan athlete on fire dies

Dickson Ndiema, the former boyfriend of Ugandan marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei, has died from severe burns after he set her on fire, according to officials at the Kenyan hospital where he was being treated.

Ndiema ambushed Cheptegei as she returned home from church over a week ago, dousing her in petrol and igniting the flames.

The incident has shocked the community and raised concerns about domestic violence.

Local authorities revealed that the couple had been involved in a dispute over a small piece of land in northwestern Kenya, where Cheptegei lived and trained.

Ndiema succumbed to his injuries in the intensive care unit on Monday night, having sustained burns covering more than 30% of his body.
