Equatorial Guinea President’s Son (50) Sentenced  Over Illegal Sale of State Aircraft – A court in Equatorial Guinea has found Ruslan Obiang Nsue, son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, guilty of unlawfully selling a state-owned aircraft.

The aircraft in question, an ATR 72-500 operated by the national carrier Ceiba Intercontinental, was reportedly sold to a Spanish company.

Prosecutors allege that Obiang Nsue, who previously served as Director of Ceiba Intercontinental, personally benefited from the transaction.

The court sentenced the 50-year-old Obiang Nsue to six years in prison.

However, the sentence may be suspended if he reimburses the airline approximately $255,000, along with additional damages and a government-imposed fine.

Geopolitical analyst Aaron Ng’ambi highlighted the broader significance of the ruling:

“This conviction is highly significant. It sends a clear message that accountability mechanisms are being enforced, even at the highest levels of government. It could mark a turning point for governance and transparency in Equatorial Guinea,” Ng’ambi said.
