Epworth Teen Charged After Pretending to Be a Man and Proposing to Live as Husband and Wife with 16-Year-Old Girl
An 18-year-old woman from Epworth has faced court charges for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
The accused, Shamiso Melinda Sigara, reportedly pretended to be a man to gain the girl’s trust.
Sigara appeared before Harare magistrate Ms. Jessie Kufa but did not enter a plea.
The incident occurred in November 2025 when Sigara expressed her affection and posed as male, leading the minor to accept her advances.
On February 12, 2026, Sigara invited the girl to live with her as if they were a couple.
However, according to the Herald, the next day, after speaking with her mother, the girl grew suspicious of Sigara’s true identity and reported the situation to the police.
Sigara is currently in custody while authorities consider her bail application.
Mr. Oscar Madhume represented the State during the court proceedings.
