Elizabeth Serunye: “I Don’t Need a Man”

Actress Elizabeth Serunye asserts that she doesn’t need a man in her life. The *Skeem Saam* star believes her two sons are sufficient.

At 53, Elizabeth shared with *Daily Sun* that being a single mother has empowered her. Known for her role as Principal Thobakgale on SABC1’s popular drama, she explained that growing up with boys has shaped her identity.

“I had to toughen up and become a tomboy,” she remarked. Elizabeth made a conscious choice to prioritize her sons over seeking a partner. “I decided I won’t have a partner while raising my boys. That’s where I stand,” she said.

She noted that her role on *Skeem Saam* has influenced her life. “The strictness of my character has impacted my experience of being alone while focusing on my children,” she added.

When asked about the possibility of wanting a partner, Elizabeth responded playfully, “Well, we can have fun. I’m not a saint, but I have my two husbands, Bobby and Spotty,” referring to her sons.

Elizabeth also reflected on the significance of her character, saying, “I’ll always be the principal because people have learned a lot from her. I’ve gained many lessons too, and I will remain the principal even after I’m gone.”

She encouraged young people to value education, emphasizing the importance of completing their matriculation. “Umalusi is essential for everything. Be serious about your goals. Many are called, but few are chosen,” she advised.

Elizabeth stated she would only retire from acting when she passes away. “Acting is my life. I can’t envision doing anything else. I’ve tried different jobs, but I can’t handle being told what to do for eight hours,” she concluded.
