ED Block Rises! Harare’s Skyline Transformed as Luxury Tower Nears Completion
HARARE – Construction of the ED Block, a six-storey luxury residential building in Millennium City, Harare, is progressing steadily, with apartments set to be handed over to owners early next year.
The development, launched in November 2023, is being hailed as a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s urban expansion, blending modern architecture with sustainability principles.
Named in honour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the ED Block is the first six-storey residential building in the northern suburbs.
Developers have hinted that future expansions could introduce ten-storey structures, further reshaping Harare’s skyline.
Situated within a mixed-use estate, the building shares space with the Radisson serviced hotel apartments, which are under construction, and the soon-to-be-built Mall of Zimbabwe.
According to Herald, this project represents Zimbabwe’s commitment to modern city living, offering a combination of residential, commercial, and leisure facilities in one location.
Designed with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind, ED Block incorporates biophilic design elements, such as vertical gardens that improve air quality and regulate temperatures.
Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows maximise natural light, reducing reliance on artificial cooling systems, while smart ventilation enhances indoor air circulation.
Inside, the apartments boast open-plan layouts, maximising functionality while maintaining aesthetic appeal and comfort. Each unit features private balconies, offering residents spaces for relaxation, urban gardening, and social gatherings.
Locally sourced steel and glass materials ensure the design remains rooted in Zimbabwe’s heritage while embracing modern construction methods.
At the groundbreaking ceremony in November 2023, WestProp chief executive Ken Sharpe emphasised the company’s long-term vision, stating “This marks an important step toward achieving our billion brick vision by 2050.”
