Dumped Newborn Baby Found Alive in Bulawayo Bush

A newborn baby was discovered alive in a bushy area along Khami Road in Bulawayo, near a local brewery, on January 5, 2025, around 2 p.m. The infant was found wrapped in a pair of blue denim trousers.

The remarkable find was made by a 40-year-old man who was searching for firewood in a pit used for dumping wood shavings. While collecting wood, he heard the sound of a crying baby. Following the cries, he located the newborn and immediately alerted the police.

Authorities responded quickly, and the baby was taken to Mpilo Hospital for a medical examination.

Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the acting spokesperson for the Bulawayo police, confirmed the incident and emphasized the importance of parental support to prevent such occurrences.

“We encourage young people to seek advice from elders and church leaders before making quick decisions. We also call on parents to provide support to their children to avoid such incidents,” Inspector Msebele stated.

The discovery has raised concerns about the well-being of vulnerable infants and the need for community support systems.
