Dubai Cafe Launches World’s Most Expensive Coffee at Nearly $1,000 a Cup
A cafe in Dubai has started selling the world’s most expensive coffee, priced at almost $1,000 (around R17,398) per cup. This exclusive brew is made from rare Panamanian beans, which were purchased at a high price.
Dubai is famous for its luxurious attractions, including a massive mall with an indoor ski slope, the tallest building in the world, and an artificial island filled with five-star hotels.
Serkan Sagsoz, co-founder of the Julith cafe, expressed confidence in the investment, saying, “We felt Dubai was the perfect place for our offering.” The cafe is located in an industrial area that has become popular among coffee enthusiasts. Starting Saturday, Julith plans to serve about 400 cups of this extraordinary coffee.
The coffee, priced at 3,600 dirhams (approximately R17,050), is known for its unique floral and fruity flavors, likened to tea. Sagsoz described the taste as having notes of jasmine, orange, bergamot, and hints of apricot and peach. “It’s like honey, delicate and sweet,” he added.
Last month, Dubai set a Guinness World Record for the most expensive cup of coffee at Roasters, which sold for 2,500 dirhams. Some residents were surprised by the new price, but others felt it was typical for the luxury lifestyle in Dubai.
“It’s very shocking, but at the same time, it’s Dubai,” said a resident named Ines. Another resident, Maeva, noted, “For wealthy people, it’s just another experience they can boast about.”
The Julith cafe secured its beans through a lengthy auction in Panama, where it reportedly paid a record amount. The cafe announced that 20 kilograms of these beans were sold for about 2.2 million dirhams (around R10,439).
Since the announcement, buyers from Asia, Emirati coffee lovers, and collectors have shown interest in the “Nido 7 Geisha” beans, which are grown near Panama’s Baru volcano. However, the cafe plans to keep most of its supply, reserving only a small amount for Dubai’s ruling family. -IOL
