DJ Warras Fatally Shot in Johannesburg Drive-By Incident

South African DJ and media personality Warwick Stock, better known as DJ Warras, has tragically died in a drive-by shooting in Johannesburg on December 16, 2025.

The shocking event occurred while the former 5FM presenter was reportedly engaged in security duties.

Friends and fellow musicians have taken to social media to express their sorrow.

Musician The Kiffness noted that the shooting took place during a routine security check, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Superintendent Xolani Fihla from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) confirmed the shooting in the Johannesburg CBD, though details remain sparse.

“The department can confirm a shooting incident that occurred this afternoon in the Johannesburg CBD.

JMPD officers were the first responders after being alerted by the public,” said Fihla.

Businessman and close friend Rob Hersov was one of the first to share the heartbreaking news on social media platform X, offering a heartfelt tribute.

“He was murdered today in Johannesburg. I can only say he was the most loving, compassionate, and honest person.

This is a tragedy beyond belief. Warras, we love you and miss you; may you rest in peace, brother,” Hersov wrote.

Warrick Stock, 39, a native of Durban, built an impressive career across radio, television, and business.

After becoming well-known at YFM and later 5FM, he leveraged his fame as a club DJ and TV presenter, most recently hosting the reality show Ngicel’iVisa on Mzansi Magic, which debuted in October 2025.

In a February 2025 interview, Warras expressed excitement for his return to television and new music ventures. Beyond his work in entertainment, he founded JT VIP:

Elite Guarding & VIP Protection Services, which provided security for major events, including a Chris Brown concert and the launch of the new dome at FNB Stadium.

The murder of DJ Warras adds to a troubling trend of violence against music personalities in South Africa, following the deaths of DJ Sumbody and DJ Vintos in recent years.

The music community grieves this devastating loss, as friends, fans, and fellow artists remember a gifted individual whose life was tragically cut short.
