Disaster Looms as PSL Drags Kwekwe United to Disciplinary Hearing

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) debutants Kwekwe United FC find themselves on the PSL’s disciplinary radar after failing to pitch up for a scheduled home fixture against Herentals FC at Bata Stadium on Monday, April 21.
It was a no-show that sent shockwaves across the domestic football landscape, and now the PSL has thrown the rulebook at the struggling Kwekwe outfit.
In a press release, PSL said:
“…PSL has summoned Kwekwe United FC to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee following the club’s failure to fulfill its scheduled fixture against Herentals FC on Monday 21 April 2025.
“Kwekwe United FC has been charged with breaching Order 31 of the PSL Rules and Regulations which states that it is an act of misconduct on the part of a club where:
- 31.1.8 It fails to fulfill a fixture for which a date and venue have been fixed by the League.
- 31.2.17 Behaves in a manner, which brings the league or any of its sponsors into disrepute or endangers the welfare of the League
“The disciplinary hearing shall take place at the PSL offices on Monday 5 May 2025 at 17:30hrs.”

This comes as Kwekwe United’s woes continue to mount. Life in the top flight has been anything but smooth for the recently promoted side, which is reportedly drowning in debt and internal discontent.
Players, frustrated by unpaid salaries and sign-on fees, staged a protest by refusing to travel for the Herentals clash.
“The truth is the club is owing us our salaries and part of our sign-on fees… they lied to us last week that they would give us something before our match against Herentals, which they did not,” a player told New Zimbabwe.com under anonymity.
The club has yet to issue an official explanation for the no-show, but the PSL has assured stakeholders that clarity is on the horizon.
