Diddy’s Lawyer Quits Amid Ongoing Legal Troubles

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense lawyer has filed a request to withdraw from his case, according to documents submitted on Thursday.
In the motion filed in New York Federal Court, attorney Anthony Ricco informed the judge that he plans to step down, citing “sufficient reasons” protected by lawyer-client privilege. He noted that while he has provided high-quality representation, he cannot continue to serve Diddy effectively.
Ricco did not share specific reasons for his departure but mentioned it followed discussions with Diddy’s other lawyer, Marc Agnifilo. He assured the court that this change would not delay the jury selection or trial schedule, and Diddy will still have five other lawyers representing him.
The court must approve Ricco’s motion to withdraw. The government has been informed about the motion and does not oppose it.
Diddy is currently facing over 30 civil lawsuits and is awaiting a federal criminal trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges set for May 5. If found guilty, he could face life in prison. He has pleaded not guilty to the sex trafficking accusations following his arrest in September 2024 and remains in jail without bail.
Recently, prosecutors added more details to their indictment, accusing Diddy of sex trafficking at least three women and threatening someone from a hotel balcony during a 20-year racketeering scheme. They extended the timeline of this alleged conspiracy from 2004 to 2024.
The updated indictment mentions three female victims, referred to as “Victim-1,” “Victim-2,” and “Victim-3.” Prosecutors claim Diddy used his influence in the entertainment industry to intimidate and lure women under the guise of romantic relationships, subjecting them to threats and violence.
In response, Diddy’s lawyer, Agnifilo, stated that the new filing contains “no new offenses” and criticized the prosecution’s arguments as flawed. He emphasized that Diddy remains determined to fight the charges and prove his innocence in court.
