Deutsch Connect Opens Germany Pathways for Zim Students

Award-winning German organisation Deutsch Connect is scaling up its German language training, apprenticeship and job placement programmes by partnering schools, vocational training centres and academies across Africa, with Zimbabwe identified as a key focus market.

The initiative seeks to respond to Germany’s critical shortage of skilled workers in sectors including Gastronomy and Hospitality, Engineering, Skilled Trades and Information Technology, while creating structured and ethical pathways for African students to access education and employment opportunities abroad.

Deutsch Connect is a partner of Hub4Africa under the Upskilling4Germany programme, which is funded by the State of Bavaria.

The programme equips candidates with German language proficiency, professional skills and cultural orientation before their transition into Germany’s education and vocational training systems.

Addressing students in Harare, Deutsch Connect Head of Programmes Nyararai Shava said the organisation is targeting 500 Zimbabwean students as part of its medium-term expansion plans.

“As part of our 2026 targets, Deutsch Connect has set an ambitious goal to train 500 Zimbabwean students for Germany pathways, with 120 students already enrolled in German language and preparatory programmes,” said Shava.

She said the programme is designed to deliver broader socio-economic benefits beyond individual career progression.

“Beyond individual career growth, the initiative supports knowledge and skills transfer back to Africa through return migration, collaboration or entrepreneurship,” Shava said.

“Participants are also able to support their families through remittances, contributing to improved living standards and long-term economic stability at household and community level.”

One of the programme’s alumni, engineer Taida Rukasha, recently returned to Zimbabwe and shared her experiences with Deutsch Connect students and partner schools in Harare.

“To all the students heading there, stay focused on your goals,” she said.

“You know what you want to achieve, and there are plenty of opportunities waiting. Keep your eyes on the prize and you’ll succeed.”

Through its growing partnerships across Africa and Europe, Deutsch Connect says it is positioning itself as a trusted bridge between global talent and global opportunity.
