Cowdray Park Woman Faces Assault Charge After Dispute With Husband Over a Dollar

Cowdray Park Woman Faces Assault Charge After Dispute With Husband Over a Dollar– A Bulawayo woman has been brought before the courts after she allegedly attacked her husband during a domestic dispute sparked by a disagreement over a single United States dollar.

The accused, 38-year-old Veronica Kwaramba of Cowdray Park, appeared at the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube.

She is facing a charge of physical abuse and was released on remand, with the matter postponed to January 27 to allow the State to present a medical report.

During proceedings, the complainant, identified as her husband Timothy Munonji, made an emotional plea for the court to show leniency towards his wife.

According to The Herald, he told the court that their four-year-old child depends heavily on the mother’s presence and care.

The State, represented by prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete, informed the court that the incident is alleged to have occurred on January 20 at around mid-morning. It was heard that a disagreement arose after Munonji demanded the return of US$1, which Kwaramba reportedly refused to hand over.

What began as a verbal argument allegedly turned violent, with the accused reportedly picking up a broken bottle and striking her husband several times on the face. A police report was later filed, resulting in her arrest.

Munonji was referred to a medical facility for treatment and assessment of his injuries.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies and community organisations continue to warn against domestic violence, encouraging families to resolve conflicts amicably and seek counselling or mediation before disputes escalate into physical confrontations.
