Cop in Hot Water for Selling Police Uniform for $1,000
A Harare police officer has landed himself in trouble after allegedly selling dozens of official uniforms to a fellow cop in a shady US$1,000 deal that later unraveled.
Shamain Dzingai Muteswa, 34, appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa facing charges of criminal abuse of duty after he allegedly sold 40 riot police trousers, 50 Special Tactics Unit (STU) caps, and 20 grey police shirts to another officer, Justice Chasiya.
The court heard that Muteswa, stationed at ZRP Fife Avenue Flats, Mkushi Academy, supplied the uniforms after Chasiya requested help acquiring them.

In return, Muteswa received US$1,000.
Chasiya is said to have resold the uniforms to other officers before the illegal trade came to light on October 23, 2025, when he was arrested and implicated Muteswa during questioning.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, represented by Christopher Lloyd Tarenyika, is the complainant in the case.
Muteswa was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody pending further investigations.
