Concern Grows as Former Orlando Pirates Star Tendai Ndoro Battles Health Crisis in South Africa

Former Orlando Pirates and Zimbabwe national team striker Tendai Ndoro has been hospitalized in Durban, South Africa, as his health deteriorates due to diabetes-related complications.

His condition has sparked concern among his family, friends and the football community.

A leaked audio recording, reported by Nehanda Radio, reveals that Ndoro’s mother disclosed his worsening condition to a close neighbour and friend.

She explained that a woman living with him in Durban had reached out to inform them of his hospitalization after months of no communication.

In an emotional voice note, she detailed his dangerously low blood sugar levels, which have severely affected his eyesight and physical strength.

She also lamented financial difficulties preventing her from visiting him or bringing him back to Zimbabwe for better medical care.

“Kutaura izvezvi kwandiri kuita kudai, Tendai ari muchipatara. Ariku Durban, Munhu waarikugara naye ndiye akatoita zvekufona kutiudza kuti Tendai ari muchipatara sezvo anga asingatauri nesu.

“Sugar yake hanzi iri low zvisingaite. Zviri kundirwadza izvezvi kuti mari zvino ndoyiwanepi yekuti ndinomuona kana kumutora. Zviri kunzi maziso ake akawira zvisingaiti and akabuda mamota muhapwa.

“Parizvino ndiri panguva yakaoma mwanangu,” she said in the recording.

His condition came to light after a friend attempted to recover an unpaid balance from a loan extended to Ndoro last year.

The issue was raised in a WhatsApp group, leading to his mother’s emotional revelation.

The disclosure moved several group members, prompting discussions about raising funds to bring him back home for medical assistance and family support.

Ndoro has faced significant health challenges in recent years.

In 2021, he temporarily lost his sight due to diabetes-related complications but later recovered.

Reports also indicate that the footballer has struggled financially, with speculation surrounding the loss of his wealth following his separation from South African ex-wife, Thando Maseko.

However, Ndoro has denied that his financial problems stemmed from his marriage, attributing them instead to a spiritual attack.

Recently, Ndoro was seen training with Zimbabwean club Simba Bhora, though his frail appearance raised concerns about his well-being.

Despite his struggles, the former striker has credited his faith and family for supporting him through difficult times.

According to iHarare, supporters are growing increasingly worried about his condition, with many hoping he will receive the necessary medical assistance back home.
