Community service for security guard whose dog severely injured the child stealing macadamia nuts

CHIPINGE – A 44-year-old security guard has been sentenced to 245 hours of community service for unleashing his dog on a 10-year-old boy caught stealing macadamia nuts at Luipaardsvlei farm, leaving the child with devastating injuries.

Daniel Simango (44) from Makono village, Chipinge appeared before the Chipinge Magistrates Court for negligently causing bodily harm to a minor.

The State alleges that on October 12, 2024, around 1630hours, a 10-year-old boy and his friends entered Luipaardsvlei Farm with the intention of stealing macadamia nuts.

The intruders gained entry to the farm by stretching and breaching the fence.

While the complainant and his friends were inside the farm, Simango approached them with a dog which he then released from its leash, allowing it to attack the complainant and inflict multiple bites on his left thigh and private parts.

During the attack, the minor sustained serious injuries, specifically to his left thigh and genital area.

The accused was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment with 7 months suspended for 5 years on condition of good behavior.

The remaining 7 months were suspended conditional upon completing 245 hours of community service.
