Chitungwiza Man Found Dead After Night Out

A man attending his cousin’s funeral was tragically killed after leaving the service to grab a drink at a local bar in Chitungwiza.

The body of 31-year-old Lucky Hlawe was discovered near Mt Moriah AFM Church in Unit G in the early hours of Sunday, sparking shock and fear in the community.

Harare’s Acting Provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, said Lucky was in the area attending the funeral of his relative, Thembinkosi Hlawe, at House 36610 in Unit G.

“This incident occurred on Sunday, and the informant, Melhlafane Hlawe, alerted police.

“Lucky Hlawe was allegedly murdered on an unnamed road near Mt Moriah AFM Church in Unit G. No arrests have been made so far,” she said.

According to H-Metro, Lucky had gone to Velvet Shopping Centre in Unit O to have a beer with family members after the funeral.

A dispute with the bartender led the group to move to Taita Shopping Centre, but Lucky later left the group without informing anyone of his destination.

At around 5 a.m., Melhlafane and other relatives searched for him and found a crowd gathered near Mt Moriah AFM.

It was then they realized the tragedy Lucky’s lifeless body lay in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the left side of his head.

Police confirmed that nothing was found in Lucky’s pockets, and his body was taken to Chitungwiza Hospital Mortuary. The investigation is ongoing.
