Police confirmed that two sisters from Chinhoyi drowned on Friday while swimming at St Irves Dam.
The deceased sisters have been identified as Sharmaine (14) and Chipo (13). Sharmaine had just completed her Grade Seven studies at Mhanyame Primary School and was awaiting results after reportedly passing “with flying colours.”

According to police, Sharmaine drowned while attempting to rescue her younger sister.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera told H-Metro that Shallome immediately ran home to alert a relative.
“Shallome rushed home and alerted her cousin, Blessed Muungani, about the incident,” said Insp Kohwera.
Community members raced to the dam, where two men managed to pull the girls’ bodies from the muddy water.
“Two men managed to retrieve the sisters’ bodies which were stuck in the mud in the dam,” he said.
The bodies were taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.
Inspector Kohwera urged parents and guardians to closely supervise minors, especially during the rainy season.
“Parents must keep a close eye on children,” he said, warning against swimming in undesignated and swampy areas.
