The China Aid Project is reshaping livelihoods in Zindi Village, Shamva, through a package of practical development initiatives that villagers say are already delivering tangible results.
The project includes a poultry scheme, borehole drilling, diptank construction and a piped water system supplying every household interventions aimed at improving food security, income generation and access to basic services.
More than 50 households have already benefited from the poultry programme, which distributed 2 000 road runner chicks and 250 broilers, alongside hands-on training in poultry management.

“We’re not just improving agriculture, we’re empowering people. It’s a win-win,” said Chinese agricultural expert Zhao Ke, who is leading the project.
“Farmers gain skills and resources, and the whole community grows stronger.”
Zhao said the introduction of modern farming techniques and infrastructure would help farmers increase yields, diversify incomes and become more resilient to economic and climate shocks.
Access to clean water has also improved following the drilling of boreholes and the installation of a household piped water system, while the newly built diptank is expected to strengthen livestock health management in the area.
Local Agritex officer Philimon Mukova said the project was designed to grow beyond initial handouts.
“In January, we are set to dispatch another 1 200 chicks to local farmers,” he said.
“What is encouraging is that some farmers are already feeding chicks from their own stock. That shows the project is becoming self-sustaining.”
Mukova added that the initiative was boosting both incomes and food security.
“The project is empowering us to be more self-sufficient,” he said.
Traditional leadership has also welcomed the development.
Zindi Headman Waveson Zindi described the project as life-changing for the community.
“This partnership with China is bringing real change. Our people are benefiting big time,” he said.
“Tap water in every household is a huge relief. It will save women hours of fetching water and allow them to focus on other productive activities.”
“This is development we can see and touch,” Zindi added.
“We are truly thankful to our Chinese friends for their support.”
