Chikomba Man Kills Mentally Ill Wife After Accusing Her of ‘Troubling’ Him

Chikomba Man Kills Mentally Ill Wife After Accusing Her of ‘Troubling’ Him – Police in Mashonaland East have arrested a Chikomba man accused of brutally killing his mentally ill wife, Priviledge Hunzvi, after allegedly beating her with a stick and tying her to a tree. The suspect claimed the woman had become “troublesome.”
Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the shocking incident.

He said, “Priviledge was known to be mentally ill, and medical documents confirm this. On the night of November 1, ZRP Sadza received information that she had suddenly died, as reported by her husband’s younger brother, Brian Hunzvi.”
Investigations show the couple had gone to sleep in their grass-thatched hut on October 31 when Priviledge fled to the home of a relative, Penias Mamvura Mutumiri (70). The husband later tracked her down and returned with the help of their two sons.
Inspector Chazovachii explained that the woman was tied up several times that night as she repeatedly tried to escape.
He added, “The husband then took a stick and struck her on the head multiple times. Though her hands were tied, she attempted to shield herself.”
The next morning, the woman complained of hunger and was given sadza, then mahewu, before falling asleep. Hours later, she was found dead inside the hut.
Police say the husband alerted his sons and neighbour, Tauya Mutero (56), before involving the in-laws, which led to a dispute over funeral costs. The matter was eventually reported to police on November 1.
Detectives arrested the husband and recovered the stick used in the assault. A post-mortem showed severe head swelling and injuries on her hands and right eye.
Inspector Chazovachii warned the public:
“We urge people not to take the law into their own hands. When there are misunderstandings, they should seek mediators.”
