Chief’s right – hand man turned land looter

KADOMA – A 65-year-old village head under Chief Mupamombe has been hauled before the courts over illicit deals involving the sale of Kadoma City Council land to desperate home seekers.

Ignatius Tazvivinga appeared before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court facing fraud charges, as defined in Section 136 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.

Allegations are that the accused sold Kadoma City Council land to land seekers, falsely claiming the remainder of Lot Railway 7 belonged to the Mupamombe clan.

The court heard that desperate land seekers were lured by the accused’s offer, paying him at least USD 250, supposedly as the Chief’s token of appreciation. In return, they received affidavits as proof of purchase.

On February 1, 2024, the Kadoma City Council reported the illegal settlers to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Law and Order, leading to the arrest of the accused person.

The accused person was remanded to October 8, 2024 for trial.
