Chibaya Demands Probe Into Chivayo’s Mysterious Wealth
Former opposition MP Amos Chibaya has reignited public calls for a full-scale investigation into controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo’s unexplained riches, saying the source of his fortune is suspicious and overdue for scrutiny.
Chivayo, known for flaunting luxury vehicles and showering gifts on celebrities, artists, and church leaders, has become a symbol of wealth and influence, but not without controversy.
His name frequently surfaces in reports of shady government tenders and possible abuse of public funds.
Now, with workers across Zimbabwe struggling to put food on the table, the ex-legislator says it’s time to connect the dots between Chivayo’s flashy lifestyle and the country’s rampant corruption.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe during the Workers Day event hosted by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), Chibaya did not mince his words.
“I am sure you took note of the fact that the 2025 ZCTU theme talks about ending corruption. On the issue of corruption, I do support the team from ZCTU.
“You can see that Chivayo is busy distributing vehicles, giving people money and all.
“But the question is, where is that money coming from? Sadly, there is no investigation whatsoever, no arrest whatsoever,” he said.
He argued that Zimbabwe’s wealth is being hoarded by a powerful few, while ordinary citizens and workers continue to suffer in poverty and neglect.
Chibaya added that if corruption continues unchecked, the nation’s future remains bleak.
“The national resources must be shared equally among all citizens, not just the elite,” he insisted.
