Chaplin High School driver arr€sted for inflating tractor part cost from $55 – $355

Chaplin High School driver arr€sted for inflating tractor part cost from $55 to $355 – Davie Maravanyika, a 58-year-old driver at Chaplin High School, has been arrested and charged with fraud for allegedly inflating the cost of a tractor part.

The incident, which led to his arrest, occurred on January 29, when he submitted a fraudulent quotation for the purchase and fitting of the part.

Maravanyika had initially received a verbal quotation of US$35 for the part and US$20 for the fitting.

However, he later submitted a claim stating that the total cost was US$355. The fraud was uncovered when the school’s bursar attempted to process the payment to Gazaet (Pvt) Ltd, the purported supplier.

The company refused to accept the money, denying any involvement in issuing the quotation.

Following an investigation by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), it was revealed that the serial number on the quotation did not match the company’s official records.

This discovery led to Maravanyika’s arrest on February 27.
