Burglary lands Darwendale men in Jail
CHINHOYI – Two Darwendale men, Saimon Mbewe (34) and Lavender Mabhusa (42) appeared before Chinhoyi Magistrate’s Court charged with unlawful entry and theft of groceries and property worth USD 3168 from Mbevi Farm.
The accused person pleaded guilty to the charges.
The court heard that the duo broke into Serena Manyengeri’s residence in Darwendale between July 16 and 20, 2024, taking advantage of her temporary absence.
It is alleged that the accused broke into the house by forcing the padlock using unknown object.
Whilst inside, the accused persons stole an assortment of groceries and household property which they sold the following day.
The accused were apprehended on 23rd July 2024. A tip-off led to the recovery of some stolen property from buyers.
The total value of stolen goods was USD 3168 with USD880 recovered.
The accused were sentenced to 24 months imprisonment with 6 months suspended and a further 6 months suspended pending restitution. Additionally, the first accused’s previous 3-month sentence was activated, resulting in a total effective sentence of 15 months.
