The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has finally put an end to a four-year burglary spree, arresting 38-year-old Tauya Maguwu, who had been terrorizing homes across Bulawayo since 2021.
Maguwu, described as a “notorious housebreaker,” is linked to at least seven cases of unlawful entry and theft, with stolen property valued at over US$3,500.
According to ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the suspect’s arrest was made possible through tip-offs from vigilant members of the public.
“We commend the public for their cooperation, which led to the successful arrest of the suspect. Criminals must know that the police, together with the people, will not tolerate crime,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
Maguwu’s string of burglaries stretched from Nketa to Sizinda, with his most brazen act occurring on March 12, 2025, when he broke into a house in Sizinda and made off with a Samsung home theatre, three blankets, and a 50-inch Samsung television.

In an earlier incident in December 2021, the suspect looted a home in Nketa, stealing a laptop, Starlet HD decoder, Q Set decoder, two laptop speakers, and a radio speaker.
Following his arrest, police recovered property worth US$1,900, offering some relief to victims. Commissioner Nyathi assured the public that Maguwu will face the full wrath of the law.
“We continue to warn criminals that their days are numbered. We urge communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police immediately,” he added.
Maguwu is expected to appear in court soon, where he will answer for his crimes.
Meanwhile, police have urged residents to strengthen home security measures and report any criminal activity to their nearest station.
