Bulawayo Woman In Court for Spending US$10,000 ‘Mukando Money’

Bulawayo Woman In Court for Spending US$10,000 Mukando Money – A woman from Pumula East, Betina Ndlovu (31), has been hauled before the courts for allegedly squandering US$10,000 in joint savings, along with important documents, entrusted to her by her ex-husband.

Ndlovu appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Learnmore Khumalo and was remanded out of custody to 7 May pending trial.

She faces charges of theft of trust property.

According to the prosecutor, Ms Mandrela Chisiiwa, the matter dates back to June last year when Ndlovu was still married to the complainant, Mr Gilbert Zuvarinwe.

“The complainant returned from work and found the accused absent from home. Upon inspection, he discovered that some household items were missing,” said Ms Chisiiwa.

Zuvarinwe also realised that US$10,000 in cash—jointly saved during their marriage—had vanished, together with documents relating to two houses and two vehicles.

Efforts to recover the money proved futile after Zuvarinwe tracked down Ndlovu at her new residence.

“She failed to account for the missing funds and documents,” the court heard.

A report was subsequently made to the police, leading to her arrest. None of the cash or documents have been recovered to date.
