Bulawayo Trio Accused of Fraud Over Forged Bank Slips

BULAWAYO – Brendon Shoko (28), a well-known Bulawayo socialite popularly known as “Breezy,” appeared before the Bulawayo Magistrates Court on Thursday, alongside his girlfriend Priscah Chipeta (38) and their associate Knowledge Mhlanga (41).

The three face charges of fraud and forgery for allegedly defrauding Phethekile Madonko of US$560, funds intended for her child’s school fees.

The State, represented by Ms. Mufaro Ndirayire, alleges the suspects conspired to produce fake CBZ Bank deposit slips to deceive Ms. Madonko.

Court documents reveal that she entrusted Chipeta with the money to settle fees at Gloag High School, but instead, the funds were misused and fraudulent slips were issued to cover up the act.

During the hearing, the court learned about two incidents of alleged fraud. On January 7, Ms. Madonko reportedly handed Chipeta US$350 for the school fees, which was allegedly diverted.

Chipeta then sought assistance from Shoko and Mhlanga, who forged a deposit slip. A similar scheme took place on February 20, involving another US$210.

In both cases, the school fees were not paid.

The alleged fraud was uncovered when Gloag High School contacted Ms. Madonko about unpaid fees, prompting her to confront Chipeta.

When Chipeta denied wrongdoing, Ms. Madonko reported the matter to the police.

This led to the arrests of all three accused.

The trio appeared in court for a bail hearing scheduled for Friday. However, as of Sunday, no updates have been reported regarding the outcome of the hearing.

According to Zimeye reports, police have appealed to potential victims with similar experiences involving the accused to come forward with information that could assist their investigation.
