Bulawayo Sees Spike in Teen Pregnancies: Over 500 Teen Pregnancies Recorded This Year!

Bulawayo has reported over 500 cases of teenage pregnancies since January. This alarming trend has led to calls for stronger cooperation between churches and government to combat early pregnancies and drug abuse.
Judith Ncube, the Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, shared these statistics during the ordination of 52 bishops from the Council of Churches in Africa at the Bulawayo Large City Hall over the weekend, NewsDay reports.
She emphasized that the involvement of religious organizations is crucial in addressing these issues.
Ncube highlighted the seriousness of the situation, mentioning that the youngest mother is under 13 years old. “We must unite to fight this,” she urged, stressing the importance of moral guidance from faith-based groups.
CCA president Rocky Moyo expressed the church’s readiness to support efforts against teenage pregnancy and drug abuse, seeking collaboration with the government for a better future.
Concerns were also raised about women becoming involved in drug networks, using everyday products to distribute narcotics to minors.
Zanu PF national commissar Munyaradzi Machacha praised the partnership between religious organizations and the government, emphasizing a shared vision for the nation’s future.
