Bulawayo Court Jails Man 40 Years for R@ping 81-Year-Old Neighbour
The Bulawayo Regional Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 21-year-old man, Gift Ncube, to 40 years in prison after finding him guilty on two counts of rape committed against his 81-year-old neighbour in Hope Fountain.
Prosecutors told the court that in the early hours of 15 February, Ncube unlawfully entered the elderly woman’s home before violently overpowering her.

The attack occurred inside the victim’s house, where she was targeted while alone.
After the assault, Ncube reportedly fell asleep, giving the victim an opportunity to flee and alert neighbours.
Community members apprehended him at the scene, where signs of forced entry were also discovered.
The court condemned the offence as a shocking breach of safety and dignity, particularly against a vulnerable senior citizen in her own home.
Magistrates said the severity of the crime warranted a lengthy custodial sentence to protect the public and reflect society’s outrage.
Ncube will serve an effective four decades behind bars.
