Brother Arrested for Alleged Murder of Sister and Niece After False Prophet’s Claim
MASVINGO – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested Tongai Chirume (35),for allegedly r@ping and murdering his sister, Mercy Chirume (33) and her 4-year-old daughter.
The tragic incident, which occurred on March 1, 2025, in Makurumidze Village, Masvingo, has left the local community in shock and mourning.
A statement released on the ZRP’s official Twitter handle confirmed the arrest and disclosed the chilling details of the case.
According to the statement, Chirume lured his sister into believing that a prophet had instructed him to engage in sexu@l relations with her as a ritual to cleanse the family of malicious spirits.
When Mercy Chirume uncovered the deception and threatened to report him to the authorities, the situation turned violent.
Investigations revealed that Chirume r@ped and murdered his sister and attempted to assault her 4-year-old daughter in the same brutal manner.
The attack was carried out using a kitchen knife, which investigators have since recovered as evidence.
Tragically, the young girl’s lifeless body was discovered in an open well, compounding the horror of the crime.
This shocking incident has sent waves of outrage and grief through the community, with many calling for justice for the victims.
