Brazilian Nun Dies at 116, British Woman Becomes World’s Oldest Person

Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas, the world’s oldest living person, has passed away at the age of 116.
The Brazilian nun died on April 30 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, according to the Congregation of Teresian Sisters of Brazil, which praised her lifelong dedication to faith and service.
Lucas was born on June 8, 1908 and became the world’s oldest person earlier this year following the death of Japan’s Tomiko Itooka, who also lived to be 116.
She was a devoted supporter of Sport Club Internacional, which paid tribute to her in a statement, celebrating her “legacy of spirituality and compassion.”
Following Lucas’s passing, Ethel Caterham, a British woman from Surrey, England, has now been confirmed as the oldest living person.
According to the Gerontological Research Group (GRG) and LongeviQuest database, Caterham is 115 years old and is believed to be the last surviving subject of King Edward VII.
She was born on August 21, 1909, in Shipton Bellinger, Hampshire.
Brazil remains home to the world’s oldest living man. João Marinho Neto, a 112-year-old resident of Ceará, holds the record, as verified by the Guinness Book of Records.
Lucas’s passing marks the loss of a remarkable figure known for her spirituality and devotion, while Caterham now takes her place in history.
According to NDTV, Caterham’s milestone makes her only the third British person ever to reach the age of 115.
