Blessed Mhlanga May Face Longer Time in Prison

Blessed Mhlanga, the head of news at Heart & Soul TV, may spend more time in remand prison after the State requested more time to respond to his appeal at the High Court.

The prosecution is also seeking to transfer his case to a specialized anti-corruption court.

The request to move the case is based on the fact that the original case was heard in a Regional Court, which is an anti-corruption court, at the Magistrates Court over a week ago.

Broadcast journalist Blessed Mhlanga has been in detention since February 24. He is facing charges of incitement related to his critical interviews with a war veteran, Blessed Geza.

However, Mhlanga’s lawyer, Chris Mhike, argued against the transfer, stating that the alleged offense has nothing to do with corruption.

Mhike also requested that if the matter is postponed, it should be up to Wednesday, March 12. Justice Gibson Mandaza adjourned the court to noon today to consider the submissions.

Mhlanga’s case has raised concerns about the handling of cases in specialized courts. The outcome of this case will be closely watched to see how the justice system handles appeals and transfers of cases.
