‘Birth Control Made Me Lose My Sight’
Many women are aware of common side effects of birth control, like weight gain and mood changes, but few know that it can cause rare conditions—like blindness.
Chelsey Painter Davis, a blind content creator, recently went viral on social media after sharing how birth control pills caused her permanent vision loss.
In a candid video, Chelsey recounted her story: “I was 18, about to get married, and my physician pushed me to start birth control pills. I didn’t want to, but I felt pressured.”
Soon after, she experienced severe headaches, which her doctor brushed off as stress. Despite trying massages to relieve the pain, her vision began to blur.
Speaking casually while doing chores, Chelsey explained that by the time she received proper medical attention, it was too late.
The birth control had triggered a rare condition called pseudotumor cerebri, causing a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid that crushed her optic nerves, leaving her permanently blind.
Now, Chelsey dedicates her platform to educating others about the hidden risks of birth control. “No one told me about the dangers,” she said, “so now I’ll spend my life telling others.”
Through her posts under @blindmomlife, she shares crucial questions to ask doctors and offers insights from her own experience.
