Beyoncé Sets Record as Most-Nominated Artist in Grammy History
Beyoncé has set a new record by becoming the most-nominated artist in Grammy Awards history, surpassing her husband, Jay-Z.
The couple had previously been tied with 88 nominations each, but Beyoncé has now taken the lead with recognition for her latest album, Cowboy Carter. This year, she leads the nominations with 11, including best album, best country album, and song of the year for “Texas Hold ‘Em.”
Other top nominees, with seven nominations each, include Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, and Charli XCX. The Beatles also received a nomination for record of the year for “Now And Then,” an unfinished John Lennon track completed last year using AI technology.
This nomination comes 60 years after the Beatles were nominated for best new artist, which they won.
Beyoncé is already the most awarded artist by the Recording Academy, with 32 wins as a solo artist and three more with Destiny’s Child.
However, she has yet to win the prestigious album of the year award, despite having been nominated four times in that category.
Earlier this year, Jay-Z criticized Grammy voters for Beyoncé’s lack of recognition in the top category while accepting a lifetime achievement award.
“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady,” he said. “But she has more Grammys than anyone and has never won album of the year. That doesn’t make sense.”
Beyoncé’s 11 nominations this year mark the highest ever received by a female artist in a single year.
