Beitbridge Man Hangs Himself After Reading Wife’s Love Messages

BEITBRIDGE – A 42-year-old man from Alpha Stands in Beitbridge died by suicide after allegedly discovering romantic messages between his wife and another man — leaving behind a haunting note scrawled on his bedroom wall that has stunned the local community.

Chief Superintendent Ncube confirmed that Marume Chinembiri was found dead on October 23, 2025, hanging from roof trusses inside his rented room.

He stated that Chinembiri used a brown belt, which had been buckled and fastened to a piece of wire.

Apart from the marks left by the belt, no other injuries were observed.

His body was transported to Beitbridge District Hospital Mortuary, and an inquest under case number RRB 6495961 has been opened to investigate the full circumstances surrounding his death.

The suicide note, written directly on the wall, revealed Chinembiri’s emotional distress.

It read: “Ndabata message mufoni yemudzimai wangu nemunhu waanotorana naye saka ndatya kuti ndingasekwa nevanhu.”

The message was discovered by his niece, Catherine Chinembiri (30), who also found his lifeless body.

Neighbours stated that Chinembiri’s marriage to Magret Manyuchi had long been troubled.

The couple had been together for 18 years and had more than three children.

According to residents, Chinembiri allegedly confirmed the affair through EcoCash transactions after confronting his wife about the messages.

One neighbour, who requested anonymity, said, “Marume confronted his wife after seeing the messages. They fought, and she packed her bags and moved out to Mashavire Township with the children.

Following the confrontation, Chinembiri reportedly became emotionally withdrawn and began drinking heavily.

Residents observed him wandering the neighbourhood, often muttering to himself.

Some claimed they saw him scribbling on the wall a day before his death.

MyZimbabweNews attempted to contact Magret Manyuchi for her side of the story, but she could not be reached on her mobile phone.

The couple’s daughter, Belinda, also declined to speak on the matter.

She said, “I cannot comment on issues I did not ask anyone to publish, my brother.

“Use whatever information you have,” before ending the call.

Sources close to the family described Chinembiri as a former boxer with a volatile temper, especially when intoxicated.

“He was no saint. When drunk, he became a fighter, a drunken kick-boxer.

“Maybe the wife just got tired,” said one neighbour.

Another resident added, “He stayed here in Beitbridge for seven years, and the wife only joined him recently after selling their land back home.

“They lived like strangers under one roof.”

While some locals expressed sympathy for Chinembiri, others believe his drinking and violent behaviour may have contributed to the breakdown of the marriage.

However, many agree that his death reflects a deeper crisis affecting men who silently battle emotional pain, betrayal, and poverty.

“There are many men who are dying silently. Drugs, broken marriages and pride are killing them.

“They cannot talk about pain, so they end it all,” said another resident.

The incident has sparked conversations about mental health and domestic conflict in the community.

Chief Superintendent Ncube urged residents to seek peaceful solutions when facing personal challenges.

“We encourage people to engage third parties such as pastors, the police victim friendly unit, trusted friends and other community leaders.”
