Beitbridge Infant D!es, Wife Hospitalised After Husband Sets House On Fire using Gas – A tragic case of domestic violence in Beitbridge, Matabeleland South, has left a nine-month-old infant d€ad and a woman fighting for her life after her husband allegedly st@bbed her and set their home on fire following an argument over infidelity accusations.

According to B Metro, the accused, Gibson Chidzanga, has been charged with assault, murd€r, and malicious damage to property.

He appeared before Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Ngoni Nduna and was remanded in custody until March 24.

 

According to the victim, Thabani Sibanda, the ordeal began on the morning of December 13, 2022, when Chidzanga saw a message from her colleague, Apros Donga, on her phone.

The message simply asked her to bring some buckets to work, but Chidzanga became enraged and accused her of being unfaithful. D

espite her attempts to explain, he seized her phone and stormed out.

 

That night, he returned home intoxicated and reignited the argument.

When Sibanda refused to engage further, he took her phone outside to show his friend before coming back inside and stabbing her in the right hand. She managed to escape, running for her life.

 

Around 10:30 PM, Chidzanga escalated the violence. He carried a gas cylinder into the bedroom, picked up their infant daughter from the bed, and summoned his family, threatening to burn them all alive. Terrified, Sibanda and her nine-year-old daughter fled to a neighbor’s house for safety.

 

Moments later, Chidzanga ignited the gas cylinder, causing a fire that engulfed the bedroom. His nine-month-old daughter, who was trapped inside, was burnt beyond recognition.

 

The incident was reported to the police, leading to Chidzanga’s arrest.
