Beer and goods smuggling rings busted in Karoi
Cuthbert Muvonga (25) of Chirundu, appeared before Karoi Magistrate’s Court facing smuggling charges under Section 182 of the Customs and Excise Act for attempting to smuggle beer without declared documentation.
The court heard that on September 10, 2024, police detectives received a tip-off that Muvonga had smuggled beer from Zambia into Zimbabwe through an unauthorized entry point, leading to his interception at a Chirundu service station.
It is alleged that the accused person found in possession of 4×6 packs of 330ml Heineken beer, 4×6 packs of 330ml Windhoek and 4×6 packs of 330ml Castle Lite beer.
Muvonga failed to produce declared documentation, leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, a similar case was brought before the Karoi Magistrate’s Court where a trio was sentenced to pay a fine of USD 150 each or face 2 months imprisonment in default of payment for smuggling goods worth ZWL 29,676.49.
