Baboon Attacks Mwenezi Man, Leaves Him with Deep Hand Injuries

MWENEZI – Tawanda Gijima, a 31-year-old man from Rushamhu Village, Chief Neshuro in Mwenezi, is battling severe hand injuries after a baboon attacked him in a field last Friday.

Gijima was attacked by a baboon while guarding a field in Rushamhu Village last Friday, an incident that would leave him with severe hand injuries.

The incident occurred around 2 pm, when a baboon being chased by dogs entered the field, and Gijima’s uncle, who was with him at the time, was unable to prevent the attack.

According to his sister, Violet Mahondo, the baboon killed one of the dogs and then turned on Gijima, who tripped and fell while trying to escape. The baboon attempted to grab him by the neck and then began chewing his arms.

Mahondo explained that her brother’s screams for help prompted their uncle to intervene and chase the baboon away. “The baboon left deep bites on Tawanda’s hands,” she said.

Gijima sustained deep cuts on both hands and is currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital. However, his family is struggling to pay his medical bills and buy medication.

In a worrying twist, Gijima did not seek immediate medical attention and only went to the hospital after receiving help from a well-wisher. This delay has raised concerns about the severity of his injuries and the potential for complications.

Mahondo appealed for assistance, saying, “Tawanda needs medication, but we can’t afford it. We are appealling for assistance to meet his hospital bills and buy medication.”

Those willing to help Gijima can contact his sister, Violet Mahondo, on 0786788650.
