Axe of Fury: Father Kills Daughter, Attacks Wife

GOKWE – A 53-year-old Gokwe man is battling for his life in hospital after allegedly killing his four-year-old daughter with an axe in a fit of rage sparked by accusations of infidelity against his wife.
Thomas Nyamadzawo of Kasamara Village, Chief Nemangwe, allegedly struck his daughter, Precious, several times on the head with an axe after she jumped into her mother’s arms in an attempt to protect her.
Nyamadzawo’s wife, Eunice Mawisa, is also in a critical condition at Gokwe South District Hospital, where Nyamadzawo is being treated for self-inflicted poison injuries.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Midlands Police Spokesperson, confirmed that the incident occurred on Wednesday night when Nyamadzawo arrived home and accused his wife of infidelity.
“The accused person began accusing his wife of infidelity and ordered her to leave the homestead. When she refused, an altercation ensued, and the accused person grabbed an axe that was behind the door and struck his daughter on the head,” Inspector Mahoko said.
Inspector Mahoko said Nyamadzawo continued to swing the axe towards his wife until she fell down, but managed to escape and sought refuge with neighbors.
“The accused person pursued his wife, but was restrained by neighbors who gave her refuge. He later disappeared into a nearby bush, where he was found unconscious after consuming poison,” he said.
Inspector Mahoko condemned the incident, saying it was a clear case of domestic violence that could have been avoided if the parties had sought counseling or mediation.
“We urge members of the public to solve their disputes amicably and seek counseling or mediation when faced with challenges in their relationships,” Mahoko said.
