Attempted Robbery in Beitbridge Ends in Mob Justice, Police Hunt Armed Fugitive

BEITBRIDGE – An attempted robbery in Dulivhadzimu yesterday escalated into chaos as residents captured one suspect and subjected him to mob justice.
The other suspect, reportedly armed, escaped and is believed to be hiding in Musina, South Africa.
The two suspects allegedly waited for shopkeepers to close their businesses before attempting to snatch a bag containing cash. Their plan was interrupted when shopkeepers raised the alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents.
A mob quickly pursued the suspects, with one man firing shots at the crowd during his escape. The other was caught and severely beaten by the residents before being handed over to the police.
Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, the officer in charge of the Beitbridge Police District, confirmed the incident. “The accomplice, who was carrying a pistol, fired shots at the mob during the chase. He managed to escape and is believed to be in Musina. The suspect we have in custody was badly beaten by the residents before they handed him over to us,” Ncube stated.
During questioning, the arrested suspect disclosed information about his accomplice, revealing his cross-border residence in Musina.
Authorities are collaborating to locate the fugitive and bring him to justice.
Meanwhile, police have warned against the dangers of mob justice, urging residents to report crimes to law enforcement.
Chief Superintendent Ncube emphasized the risks of confronting armed suspects and called on the community to remain calm.
Police investigations into the case are ongoing, with a focus on apprehending the escaped suspect and ensuring public safety.
