Attacked with Logs: Gokwe man (59) fighting for life after Neighbourly assault

GOKWE – A 59-year-old man from Gokwe is fighting for his life after being brutally attacked by three neighbours in a shocking midnight assault that has left his wife shaken.

Agreement Sibanda was left critically injured, while his wife, Sarah Hlanganiso, managed to escape with minor injuries.

The attack occurred last Thursday in Ngwegwe Village, under Chief Nemangwe. Three brothers identified as Moven Chemusonde (24), Malvin Chemusonde (19) and Misheba Chemusonde (18) stormed Sibanda’s home around 11 PM.

According to reports, the brothers banged on Sibanda’s door and demanded that he come outside. When he refused, they allegedly threatened to burn down the house. Fearing for their lives, Sibanda stepped out, where he was brutally beaten.

Eyewitnesses say the three men used heavy logs to strike Sibanda all over his body. His wife, Sarah, tried to intervene, but she was also attacked and forced to run for her life.

The attackers reportedly continued beating Sibanda until he collapsed, unconscious. Believing he was dead, the three brothers then fled the scene.

The next morning, concerned villagers found Sibanda lying helplessly on the ground and immediately alerted the police. Officers arrived and rushed both Sibanda and his wife to Gokwe South District Hospital.

While Sarah’s condition is stable, Sibanda remains in critical condition.

Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrests of the three brothers and said investigations were underway.

“We have arrested three men in connection with an attempted murder case in Gokwe,” Inspector Mahoko stated. “The suspects allegedly took turns assaulting the couple, and we are still investigating their motive.”

Inspector Mahoko also urged the public to handle disputes peacefully. “Violence is never the solution,” he added. “We encourage people to seek help and resolve conflicts without resorting to crime.”
