Arsenal Supporters Set for Harare Parade After Police Approval

Arsenal Supporters Set for Harare Parade After Police Approval – Supporters of Arsenal F.C. in Harare are expected to paint the city red on 31 May after the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) granted permission for the Arsenal Fans Harare Chapter to hold an end-of-season parade and gathering in the capital.

The celebrations come after Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for the English Premier League title. The club could also complete a remarkable league and European double should they defeat Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in the UEFA Champions League final scheduled for Saturday, 30 May.

According to a letter dated 22 May from Harare Central District Police headquarters, signed by Superintendent S. Mbimbi, the Arsenal supporters’ group was authorised to march from Harare Gardens along Herbert Chitepo Street and Prince Edward Street before concluding the event at Alexandra Sports Club.

The gathering is expected to run between 2pm and 5pm.

In the correspondence, police instructed organisers to confine the event to the approved venue, route and timeframe while ensuring that all Zimbabwean laws are respected throughout the celebrations.

Authorities also warned that the regulating authority reserves the right to stop the event if it threatens public order or violates the law.

Arsenal remains one of the most supported football clubs across Africa, largely due to the influence of former manager Arsène Wenger, who became known for embracing African talent at a time when many European clubs were hesitant to rely heavily on African players because of AFCON commitments.

Over the years, the London club has featured several renowned African football stars including Nwankwo Kanu, Lauren, Kolo Touré, Emmanuel Adebayor, Alex Song, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny.
