AFM Pastor Arrested for Faking a Robbery to Cover up Fraud

Pastor Lebraity Makuni from the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe has been arrested for pretending that an armed robbery happened to cover up his own mistake.

The 28-year-old pastor told the police that $7,500 and other valuable items were stolen from his home in Chitungwiza. However, police investigations found that he made up the robbery story.

Reports say that Makuni had taken $3,000 and a Techno cellphone from a church member, promising to help them by delivering maize for their poultry business. Instead of helping, he allegedly staged the robbery to hide what he had done.

Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, a spokesperson for the Harare police, confirmed that Makuni has been charged with giving false information to the police.

After appearing in court, he was granted bail of $100, but he must report to the Chitungwiza police station every Friday. He is set to return to court next week.

This incident raises questions about trust in religious leaders as the community reacts to the pastor’s actions.
