Acting President Mohadi Applauds Cancer Care Boost as Public–Private Partnership Delivers Lifesaving Equipment

Acting President Kembo Mohadi has applauded the growing collaboration between Government and private organisations in improving cancer care, following the recent donation of chemotherapy chairs to two major hospitals.

Addressing stakeholders at Mpilo Central Hospital, Mohadi said the initiative reflects a shared commitment to enhancing patient comfort and treatment outcomes across Zimbabwe.

He described the donation as a powerful example of unity in healthcare, noting that such partnerships are essential in bridging service delivery gaps and restoring dignity to patients undergoing treatment.

Mohadi emphasized that collaborative efforts between public institutions and private donors are transforming lives and strengthening the health sector.

“These chairs, which will directly benefit cancer patients across our nation, are the result of a remarkable partnership and spirit of generosity.

“Through the collaborative fundraising efforts of Cancerserve, St John’s College, and the Maguires Family, we have witnessed how united action can lead to tangible improvements in healthcare delivery,” said Acting President Mohadi.

The donation, led by Cancerserve—a local organisation founded by oncologist Dr Anna Mary Nyakabau- includes 20 chemotherapy chairs, with 10 allocated to Mpilo and the remaining 10 set for Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare.

The equipment was sourced through a fundraising initiative supported by St John’s College, coordinated by Mr Justin Mariani, and the Maguires Family during the St John’s Pink Day event held on July 19.

According to The Herald, chemotherapy sessions can last up to five hours, making comfortable seating essential for patient wellbeing.

Acting President Mohadi said the new chairs would not only improve comfort but also enhance service delivery at the country’s main referral hospitals.

In a further show of commitment, Mohadi and Health and Child Care Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora pledged to donate an additional 20 chairs each to support cancer patients nationwide.

The Acting President also gave special recognition to Dr Nyakabau for her leadership and dedication to advancing cancer care through Cancerserve’s work.

“This donation is a demonstration of the power of unity in healthcare.

“Partnerships like these are key to strengthening our health sector and delivering better outcomes for our people,” Mohadi added, urging more institutions and individuals to emulate such efforts.
