Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak Named Players of the Year at CAF Awards as Morocco Shines in African Football

Morocco’s football stars shone brightly at this year’s CAF Awards, highlighting the country’s dominance in African football. Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak were honored as the Men’s and Women’s Players of the Year.

The event featured legendary Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan, who named Morocco, Cote D’Ivoire, and Nigeria as favorites for the upcoming AFCON title.

Achraf Hakimi, a defender for Paris Saint-Germain, had an outstanding season. His team won the UEFA Champions League, French League, and French Cup titles.

Despite being injured, he received the award in front of prominent figures, including PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi. He outperformed notable players like Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.

Ghizlane Chebbak, Morocco’s veteran forward, claimed the Women’s Player of the Year Award after becoming the top scorer at the 2024 Women’s AFCON and reaching the Team of the Tournament. Morocco finished as runners-up, losing to Nigeria in the final.

Other winners included Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, who was named Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, while Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadodzie won her third award for Women’s Goalkeeper.

Additionally, Bubista, who led Cape Verde to their first-ever World Cup qualification in 2026, was awarded Men’s Coach of the Year.
