9-year sentence for man who stole ox to sell at Koala Park

CHIPINGE – A 29-year-old Chipinge man was arrested for allegedly stealing an ox from grazing land to sell at Koala Park.

John Moyana appeared before Chipinge Magistrates’ Court on stock theft charges as defined in section 114(2)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

The State alleges that on September 29, 2024, the 47-year-old complainant took her cattle to the grazing land and left them unattended. Upon returning around 1600 hours, she discovered that her ox was missing.

On October 12, 2024, at 1300 hours, the complainant discovered her ox in the accused’s kraal and confronted him.

He confessed to stealing the ox from the grazing lands with the intention of selling it at Koala Park.

The complainant reported the incident to the police, leading to the accused person’s arrest.

The accused person was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with 1 year suspended for 5 years, resulting in an effective sentence of 9 years.
