JAPAN – Seven men, aged between 30 and 50, were arrested yesterday in Aichi Prefecture for allegedly raping their minor daughters and sharing videos of the abuse on online chat rooms.
The accused, who were arrested for sexu@l assault and violating laws related to child exploitation, had been using a social media group to share explicit content and details of their abuse.
The investigation revealed that four of the men had raped their biological or foster daughters, while the other three had possessed obscene images of child abuse.
The victims, aged between six and 14, had been subjected to regular abuse. Some victims were “trained” since the age of three, according to the investigation.
The Aichi police discovered the chat room after one of the men was arrested in November 2024 for raping a minor.A subsequent probe of the man’s phone revealed the group, where photos of child abuse were shared.
The men had met through an online website and began sharing information, photos and videos around December 2023.
The police are currently searching for other possible past members of the group.
This case highlights the growing concern about child abuse in Japan, which has seen a rapid increase in reported cases in recent years.
According to a study published in the Journal of Injury and Violence Research, the number of child abuse cases investigated by the police has been rising steadily.
Therefore, Japan has implemented various measures to address the issue, including the saiban-in system, which allows citizens to serve as lay judges in criminal trials involving serious crimes.
