66-Year-Old Man Killed in Machete Attack Over Romantic Entanglements

LOWER GWERU – A brutal machete attack has left a 66-year-old man dead in Butete Village, Chief Bunina, in a case linked to a long-standing feud over romantic entanglements.

Bornface Nkomazana was ambushed by nine men while walking home from Lower Gweru Business Centre on March 8, 2025, at around 11 PM.The attack, which occurred near Maboleni Police Station, left Nkomazana severely injured with machete and knife wounds.

Nkomazana’s body was discovered by Lovemore Sibanda, a local resident, at around 7 AM the next morning with the bone exposed at the ankle.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the arrests of three suspects – Thabani Ncube (19), Confidence Sibanda (20) and Mthulisi Ndebele (23) from Jali Village.

Investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a long-standing grudge between youths in Butete and Mambanjeni villages over romantic relationships involving women from the two areas.

The gang reportedly attacked other villagers in Butete the same night, with at least three more cases of assault filed at Maboleni Police Station.

A manhunt has been launched for six additional suspects identified as Thulisani Ndlovu, Takana Ndlovu, Denis Ndlovu, Peter Sean and Nqabutho.

Inspector Mahoko appealed to anyone with information to report to the nearest police station to help bring the remaining suspects to justice.
