4 500 illegal miners trapped in abondoned Stilfontein mine shaft

SOUTH AFRICA – A daring rescue mission is underway in Stilfontein, North West to save approximately 4 500 trapped illegal miners facing dire health conditions with reports of multiple fatalities and hundreds at risk.
Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, North West police spokesperson confirmed that authorities are collaborating with community volunteers in a joint effort to rescue the trapped illegal miners and bring them safely to the surface.
“We have been collaborating closely with the community. Last week, we urged them to join forces with us to facilitate the safe rescue of the trapped miners.
“Our team was on site, working alongside a volunteer who bravely descended into the tunnels,”.
“The volunteer reported around 4 000 miners trapped with some in critical condition and reported fatalities.However, we are taking this information as accurate,”he said.
He cautioned that rescued miners will face immediate custody upon reaching safety.
“Once rescued, illegal miners will be taken into custody as our laws dictate consequences for such criminal activities,” said Mokgwabone.
Local volunteers have stepped forward to rescue trapped illegal miners, despite police warnings.
